How we measured
- Depth runs from the surface down to the rails or the platform. Sources measure differently, and on hilly ground the figure depends on which entrance you count from, so one station can have several numbers.
- The base is the "vertical depth" property (P4511) in Wikidata for the atlas stations, retrieved 26 September 2026. Elevated and at-grade stations are left out.
- Labelled stations and the city table are checked against independent sources: operators, builders, official documents and press citing them. Wikipedia and Wikidata do not count as a check.
- Kyiv depths in Wikidata come from Wikipedia without sources and in places contradict how the stations are built; the section shows only Arsenalna from Kyiv, which is confirmed independently.
- The Pyongyang Metro is often called one of the deepest, but there are no per-station figures from the operator, so it is not in the section.
- The Statue of Liberty stands 93 m from the ground to the torch, according to the US National Park Service.
